Pizzadelique

It’s been a while since we have been out to eat somewhere nice, so last weekend we fancied doing just that.

Our regular haunt of Carluccio’s in Islington has closed down, so it we decided to visit an old haunt of Ash’s.

Pizzadelique in Highbury. Here’s what we thought of it.

Nestled is the words we think, as in hidden away, in the side road (Chatterton St) off of Blackstock Road at the edge of Highbury and Finsbury Park in North London is a small family restaurant, that has been there for years.

When Ash lived in the area he and friends were regulars, but since then it has been at least seven years since he has been back, but it holds fond memories and the food has likewise remained in the memory too.

So a cold, wet, Sunday evening we headed Finsbury way. We couldn’t do Saturday night, plus it was booked full and we wouldn’t have got a table anyway – so word of warning book at busy times. – But on a Sunday evening it was pretty quiet, only a family group enjoying a late Sunday Dinner and ourselves.

Pizzadelique is an Italian and Pizza features big on the menu, but they have a unique selling point. Across the road on Blackstock Road itself is another restaurant – Exquisite – a Mexican and the two are co owned, this means the menu is varied, you can order Mexican in the pizza Restaurant and Pizza in the Mexican. Plus their specials board has an array of steaks, fish and veggie options.

We settled for;

Ash went for an old favourite the Chicken Burritos

It was delicious, a quick service and friendly staff, granted by the time we finished eating we were the only patrons and the waitress looked bored and stood staring at us, giving us the feeling she wanted to close up, but we were assured they would remain open until 11pm on the off chance of a late diner.

So after eating our meal, after being assured that we went forcing them to stay open we savoured our wine.

We didn’t go for desert, although the Tiramisu was always a great choice and it’s one of those places, if you run up any kind of bill you will get free shots and if you go with a large group (over 8) and start ordering drinks, soon the free drinks will probably start to arrive.

We slipped out and headed to the Woodbine, the only pub in the area that doesn’t look like a drug den or a funeral home and finished the night with a drink, before bracing the cold, wet weather and heading home.

So have you been to Pizzadelique? Or Exquisite?

Or do you have another favorite restaurant in Highbury/Finsbury?
